Slowly gathering information and details from its location to the mode of functioning, Brahma finally got a chance to meet Mr. Smarajit Jana, the head of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/durbarsports.com\/\">academy<\/a>, and embarked on a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/121clicks.com\/photo-stories\/forward-pass-inspiring-photo-story-by-balarka-brahma\">visual documentation<\/a>\u00a0of the children\u2019s lives at the residential home.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1348\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1348\" style=\"width: 690px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/homegrown.co.in\/capturing-the-journey-of-sex-workers-children-becoming-football-champions-in-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1348 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/asiajournalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/65.jpg\" alt=\"Balarka Brahma\" width=\"700\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asiajournalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/65.jpg 700w, https:\/\/asiajournalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/65-300x100.jpg 300w, https:\/\/asiajournalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/65-199x66.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1348\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Balarka Brahma<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">A unique cooperative of close to 65,000 sex workers\u2013male, female and transgender\u2013DMSC was established in 1992 in Sonagachi, the region\u2019s largest red-light district. Rallying for the rights of brothel workers, the team felt the need to do more for their children who often get trapped in the trade of their mothers, or when they are denied education they\u2019re driven into the nefarious trade of sex work and drugs. As everyone knows that Bengal is the land of football; it was the obvious choice to them to select football for this purpose,\u201d Brahma told us. \u201cRunning a home only for residential and educational purposes do not help much in long run, and they realized it. At least they needed something which can attract and motivate the kids to stay away from their mothers.
